Minari: A Conversation with Producer Christina Oh and Editor Harry Yoon

A conversation with Christina Oh and Harry Yoon, producer and editor of Minari, moderated by Patty Ahn and introduced by Bora Kyung Min Lee.

Please join GYOPO for this special event with Christina Oh and Harry Yoon, the producer and editor of the recently released film Minari (A24 and Plan B Entertainment). Translated as “water dropwort” in English, Minari tells the story of Korean immigrants who move to rural Arkansas during the 1980s in hopes of starting a new life through farming. This event will be introduced by production designer Bora Kyung Min Lee and moderated by the media theorist and activist Patty Ahn.

In order to facilitate an engaging event, GYOPO encourages those who register for the discussion to watch Minari before the program. Virtual screenings are available via A24 until 2/25. After that date, the film will be available via most digital and cable providers (Amazon, Apple, AT&T, Comcast, Cox, YouTube, etc.).

Harry Yoon

is a film and television editor with over seventeen years of experience and credits that include A24’s Minari, Annapurna’s Detroit, and HBO’s Euphoria. He is also an evangelist for Sidetime Film, a web-based platform that connects experienced film professionals with students and filmmakers seeking one-on-one advice and consultation. Yoon graduated from Williams College with a B.A. in English and attended the Graduate Directing Program ad NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.

Christina Oh

is a film producer and an in-house production executive at Plan B Entertainment. She has produced a number of films, such as The Last Black Man in San Francisco, Okja, and Ad Astra, along with Minari.

Patty Ahn

earned their Ph.D. in Critical Studies from the School of Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California, where they developed a research and teaching interest in Asian/Asian American studies; contemporary Korean and Korean American political economic and cultural history; postcolonial and feminist theory; cultural theories of global media with an emphasis on hallyu (the Korean Wave); and digital storytelling and transmedia activism. Drawing from their background as a community organizer and commercial producer, their work integrates interdisciplinary media research, critical media practice and community-based models of teaching.

Bora Kyung Min Lee

is a designer in film and performance and earned her degree in scenic design from California Institute of the Arts. She is currently working in the art department for Insecure (HBO). In her free time, she produces and designs independent films and music videos as an art director for the rock n’ roll band, My Boyfriend.
